ABOUT US

fneUM is a chapter organization of FNE International, with FNE standing for "Facilitate. Network. Empower.," an international network of people in solidarity with Nicaragua and its underdeveloped communities.  FNE International has been working with the community in Chacraseca, Nicaragua for over ten years. Chacrasceca is a small rural community in Leon, Nicaragua surrounded by rich, historical sites.

We address and assess issues dealing with education, health, community development, and empowerment, based on two criteria: input and concern from the community and availability of resources.  While every year delegates travel to Nicaragua with the same projects in mind, we address the most pressing issues facing the community and alter our project goals and objectives based on the community’s input. Our organization prides itself in working in solidarity with our community partners toward a common goal, therefore the issues we aim to address are evaluated and prioritized based on need and resources. Our funds go to specific projects or materials needed in the community whether it is materials to build homes and stoves such as bricks, cement, or wood, or supplies for the schools.

Delegations from U of M have developed and implemented a number of projects ranging from healthcare, to education, to community development, and social awareness. The delegation members are selected and prepared by an executive board of students, with continual support and interaction with our parent organization. fneUM has read and agreed to fully comply with the University of Michigan's policies regarding student organization.
